SARMs

SR-9009

Not a SARM, and 2.2 percent of a swallowed dose gets in

What circulates
10 to 40 mg a day, with an instruction to redose every two to four hours
What was studied
100 mg per kilogram, injected into the belly cavity, in mice
The gap
No published human dose to compare against
How long it lasts
About 33 minutes, measured on the intravenous side of the 2013 mouse study. That is the number the retail instruction to redose every two to four hours is quietly acknowledging.

What it actually is

SR-9009, also called stenabolic, is not a SARM and does not act on the androgen receptor at all. It acts on Rev-erb, a protein that helps run the body clock, and the 2026 anti-doping list files it five pages away from the SARMs, under metabolic modulators, next to insulins. It is on this shelf because it is sold alongside them.

What it is supposed to do

It activates Rev-erb, which shifts which genes are switched on and when, and in mice that changed how muscle handled energy. The problem is not the mechanism, it is delivery: in the 2013 paper that measured it, 2.2 percent of a swallowed dose reached the bloodstream in mice, and the terminal half life measured intravenously in the same table was about 33 minutes.

What people take it for

Endurance and fat loss, on two mouse studies that are genuinely striking. Both gave the compound by injection into the abdominal cavity, at 100 mg per kilogram for 30 days.

The dose question

What circulates
10 to 40 mg a day, with an instruction to redose every two to four hours
What was studied
100 mg per kilogram, injected into the belly cavity, in mice
The two mouse studies the selling rests on, both by injection

No studied dose to compare

The gap is not quantity, it is whether a swallowed dose arrives at all. In the 2013 paper that measured it, oral availability came out at 2.2 percent in mice at 1 mg per kilogram, against 23.4 percent for one of the improved compounds in the same table, and the terminal half life on the intravenous side was about 33 minutes. Those authors wrote that these compounds would suit dosing by injection. Both famous mouse results obeyed that, giving 100 mg per kilogram into the abdominal cavity for 30 days. The vendor instruction to redose every two to four hours is the one place a sales page and a pharmacology paper agree.

Reported because it is what people use. Nothing here recommends any amount.

How long it lasts

About 33 minutes, measured on the intravenous side of the 2013 mouse study. That is the number the retail instruction to redose every two to four hours is quietly acknowledging.

Route studied

Mice, injected into the abdominal cavity, in both studies the selling rests on. The oral availability figure of 2.2 percent also comes from mice, at 1 mg per kilogram.

Route used

By mouth, at 10 to 40 mg a day, reported as convention and not as a recommendation, with an instruction to redose every two to four hours.

How to check you have the right molecule

SR-9009 and stenabolic are the same compound, and a chemical database search under the trade name alone returns nothing, so search the code. Its identity is worth getting right for a different reason too: because it is not an androgen drug, no finding about SARMs transfers to it.

Walked through on two real certificates in how to read a certificate of analysis.

What people get wrong

A friendlier bioavailability figure of about 24 percent circulates and is attributed to the same study. It belongs to a different molecule: the bioavailability row of that table reads 2.2, 23.4, 2.4, 3.5 and 3.0 percent across five compounds, and the 23.4 is a different compound the authors singled out as an improvement. Every figure in that table was measured in mice, so none of them is a human number.

What is known about harm

One 2025 case report describes liver injury in a man who had started stenabolic, which the authors judged the likely cause after ruling out infection and autoimmune disease. He was taking several other over the counter supplements, no product was analysed, and one case is a weak signal. Beyond that the searches behind the class page found no human harm record.
